About the Competition

The 2nd Varaa VynoLegal Moot Court Competition is a virtual event designed to provide a platform for law students to showcase their research, analysis, and advocacy skills. Taking place from December 26th to 28th, 2025, the competition focuses on complex legal issues, helping students connect classroom learning with real-world applications. Through engaging in rounds of advocacy judged by experienced legal professionals, participants will gain valuable courtroom insights and feedback, honing their ability to argue, deliberate, and present evidence effectively.

Eligibility

  • Who Can Participate: Law students currently enrolled in any 3-year LLB or 5-year integrated law program from a BCI-recognized college, institution, or university across India.

  • Team Composition: Teams may consist of either:

    • Two members (both designated as speakers, with one also serving as the researcher) or

    • Three members (two speakers and one researcher).

  • Limitations: Each institution can send up to three teams.

  • Note: A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the institution is not required for participation. Once registered, team members cannot be substituted without the organizers’ approval.

Registration Process

  • Opening Date: Registration begins on October 23, 2025.

  • Deadline: The last date for registration is December 10, 2025.

  • Steps to Register: Teams must complete the registration form available here. Registration is confirmed only after successful payment of the registration fee and submission of the filled form with all necessary details. Within a week of registration, teams will receive an official approval email containing their unique team code, which they must use for all competition-related communication.

Important Dates

  • Clarifications on Moot Proposition: Teams can request clarifications via email by December 14, 2025.

  • Memorial Submission Deadline: December 15, 2025 (Teams must submit separate memorials for the Petitioner and Respondent).

  • Inaugural Ceremony: December 26, 2025

  • Researcher’s Test & Preliminary Rounds: December 26, 2025

  • Quarter-Finals: December 27, 2024

  • Semi-Finals & Finals: December 28, 2024

  • Valedictory & Prize Distribution Ceremony: December 28, 2024

Rounds and Format

  • Preliminary Round: Teams will argue once from their assigned side. The round allows a total of 20 minutes per team, including rebuttal and sur-rebuttal.

  • Quarter-Finals: Top 8 teams advance, with each match lasting 30 minutes. Rebuttals and sur-rebuttals are included, and time extensions may be granted by judges.

  • Semi-Finals: Top 4 teams advance, each arguing for 40 minutes. Teams are allowed a maximum of 2 extra minutes per judge’s discretion.

  • Finals: The last two teams argue for 50 minutes, with a potential 5-minute extension. Each round will take place on Google Meet.

Miscellaneous Rules

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to amend, modify, change or repeal any of the competition rules at any stage. The Organizing Committee shall convey any changes made in the competition rules to the Participating Teams. Violation of rules by any team which is amended by the Organizing committee will be disqualified immediately.

If a team is of the perspective that violation of the rules of the competition has taken place at any stage of the competition, the team(s) shall inform within half an hour after the completion of the round to Organizing Committee.

Team(s) under no circumstances shall approach the judges with any complaints.

The Organizers shall not be responsible for any loss or slow or unstable Internet Connection during the Competition. We request all the participants to have a stable Internet Connection.

Dress Code

  • Male Participants: White shirt, black trousers, black tie, black coat, and black shoes.

  • Female Participants: White salwar-kurta or white shirt with black trousers, along with a black coat and black shoes.

  • Runner-Up Team: Cash prize, Trophy, and Certificate

  • Best Memorial: Trophy, and Certificate

  • Best Speaker: Trophy, and Certificate

  • Best Researcher: Trophy, and Certificate
